I’ve been being told that I have Sciatica and I have no clue what it is. Can somebody PLEASE tell me what this is? I know it’s a nerve that runs down your leg, but why is it tingling? Like, it tingles every time I lay down on my left side and its never done that before. What is it? Why does it tingle when its never done it before?
Sciatica is a set of symptoms including pain that may be caused by general compression and/or irritation of one of five nerve roots that give rise to the sciatic nerve, or by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve itself. The pain is felt in the lower back, buttock, and/or various parts of the leg and foot. In addition to pain, which is sometimes severe, there may be numbness, muscular weakness, pins and needles or tingling and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body.

I have had a terrible ache in my lower right side of my back and my hip. It sometimes shoots down to my leg. I can’t walk, lay down, sit or stand, without having these shooting pains. I can’t do simple everyday tasks. I have had the pain for 4 days now and it only seems to be getting worse. If anyone knows what this is please let me know. (I am going to go to the emergency room shortly)
I had a baby 6 months ago, my 3rd.
go to the emergency room but i think that your age, and health factors are causing it. I think its arthritis caused by a stiff back, weak core and lack of daily exercise. If the docs give you meds, take them but start doing ab exercise and lower back exercises daily. For example, do 2-3 sets of 15-20 situps, then crunches, then russian twists, and finally back extensions..doing this will relieve the pain, and cause your core to be stronger, which will relieve the pain and if you constantly do it 5-6 days a week should leave. But it also might be a sciatic nerve or problem with a nerve pressing on your muscle and its causing extreme pain..but do the exercises, they will relieve the pain..
Does anyone have suggestions on what type of exercise/workout can be done with herniated lumbar discs? I currently have issues with sitting, standing, riding in a car, lifting, bending, twisting, turning. I am appealing my workman’s comp case – the injury happened while I was shipping at work, but they say since I had been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, they do not have to pay (different topic!). Anyway . . . I was told to exercise & lose weight . . . pray tell, how can I do this when any volume of activity sends burning, shooting pain from my hip through my toes (this pain does not stop after I cease activity)? Any real suggestions are welcome!
I’m so sorry for your pain. Please, if you have a pre-existing medical condition (and you do) see a professional physiotherapist or the like, before starting ANY exercise regime, or you could end up doing more harm than good.
I would think that they would suggest hydrotherapy – gentle exercises in a heated pool – for starters as this takes the weight off, but can help increase flexibility.
I don’t know if a gym would be able to give you an exercise plan, given your condition, but it might be worthwhile asking. Just make sure that you let them KNOW what is going on.
