It depends on the degree of degeneration. There is no reversal of the arthritis. If mild to moderate Chiropractic adjustments can do wonders for pain control without medication. Physical therapy is futile for pain control. If your MD prescribes PT try it and then try chiropractic.

I was prescribed Vicodin but it makes me itch and throw up. I take Flexeral (sp), Skelaxin but nothing works. The weather change is killing me. I am always in constant pain, fatique and depressed… no crying just no energy or motivation. I also have fibromalgia.
I have problems taking Vicodin, but I was prescribed Tramadol (Ultram is the brand name) 50mg for people who experience chronic pain. I just read there is a newer form of the pill that is only taken once daily, Ultram SR. I have had good results trying to work since taking it, as I also experience intense pain during the change of the weather and weakness. I have fibromyalgia, degenerative arthritis of the spine and gout that causes my joints to become disfigured. Maybe your doctor could try you on it or have samples for you to try first.

I tried one of those pillows that is thicker along one side than the other for neck support. It didn’t help.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thank you!
I would try this pillow. It will also give some gentle traction which opens up the nerve holes so there is no pressure on the nerves, which relieves the pain.

i have cervical pain (neck pain) since last 6 years .My x-rays and MRI are perfect but i am suffering. I also treated physiotherapy but it get releaf me only for a short time and the pain starts again when i discontinue physiotherapy.
Any one who know any kind of treatment which can give me releaf i will be very thank full and will pray for him
The most common cause of neck pain is a misalignment in the neck. As a result of this misalignment, the muscles pull on the joints to try to correct the problem. After a while, the muscles can become accustomed to being in this incorrect position.
While physiotherapy is good for retraining muscles, it does not correct the root problem of the misalignment of the neck. It relies upon exercises to "pull " the joints back into place. This is not the most efficient way to fix the problem. Many times this leads to pain of its own.
Your best bet is to see a chiropractor. They will evaluate your neck and then they should be able to help realign your neck properly. This will help the muscles in your neck to relax and then you will have relief from the pain.
I really wish you the best

The Spine Institute in California has done more PRODISC® artificial disc replacement (ADR) surgeries than any other institution in the US.
What is it? The FDA Approved ProDisc™-C Total Disc Replacement is a device made from metal and plastic that is placed between two adjacent vertebral bodies (neck bones) to replace a diseased cervical disc. The ProDisc™-C Total Disc Replacement consists of three parts:
1. Two metal (cobalt-chrome alloy) endplates that are anchored to the top and bottom surfaces of the adjacent vertebral bodies
2. A plastic (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene or UHMWPE) inlay that fits between the two endplates
How does it work? The plastic inlay and endplates are intended to restore the natural distance between the two vertebrae (disc height). The top (superior) endplate can slide over the domed part of the plastic inlay, which can allow movement at the level where it is implanted.
When is it used? The ProDisc™-C Total Disc Replacement is intended to be used in skeletally mature patients (people who have stopped growing) for reconstruction of the disc from C3-C7 following removal of the disc at one level for intractable symptomatic cervical disc disease (SCDD), a condition that results from a diseased or bulging disc.
What will it accomplish? The device is intended to stabilize the operated spinal level. Unlike a fusion procedure, the ProDisc™-C Total Disc Replacement is designed to allow motion at the operated spinal level. The effects of the diseased disc removal should include pain relief and improved function.
When should it not be used? The ProDisc™-C Total Disc Replacement should not be implanted in patients with an active infection, allergy to any of the device materials, osteoporosis, marked cervical instability, severe spondylosis, clinically compromised vertebral bodies at the level to be treated, and SCDD at more than one level.
